In Martinus's analyses, karma is the law of cause and effect in a living being's fate. In the published English translation of Livets Bog 4, he calls the return of fate a "mirror principle" — neither a principle of punishment nor, in an absolute sense, revenge. Martinus connects karma with reincarnation, since the results of earlier experience and activity can remain active beyond one physical life.
